CEHS Launches its Youth Chapter

Since its inception , CEHS, has been steadily recognized as an innovative, multi-purpose, multi-platform and unprecedented endeavor. The society has accordingly been selectively adjusting and adapting to meet the needs of its target audience. Recently it has been recognized that the youth needs and aspirations have not been clearly identified, let alone being met. Therefore a number of youth were invited to a brainstorming    session on Sunday, August 8, 2009, a few areas were identified as not being met by any other group where attention may be directed:

  • Target teenagers with events to introduce them to Egypt
  • A regular social place or event for youth to meet, discuss and debate.
  • Youth can be introduced to Egyptian music, dance; maybe folklore dance lessons .
  • Light Lectures about Egypt with interesting speakers?
  • Make connections and network in the Houston community.
  • Communicate with other ethnic groups.

This youth chapter (just a temporary name till the group gets established) is intended to be by the youth and for the youth. As a result of the August session, the first event was held on Thursday April 8 at Café Layal where the movie “Shades of Ray” was shown. About 20 youths from different backgrounds attended this event and participated in a lively discussion that followed the showing of the move..
